The 2023 Andremily Mourvèdre, Santa Barbara County, is a Rhône-style red from Jim Binns’ small Ventura-based project, best known for sourcing fruit across Santa Barbara County and for its Sine Qua Non lineage. Binns is widely described as a protégé of Manfred Krankl. For this bottling, it is a focused blend of 87% Mourvèdre and 13% Syrah, with the 2023 vintage 30% destemmed and raised for 21 months in 50% new French oak (barrels and demi-muids). Production is listed at 900 cases, placing it in the realm of limited but not microscopic California output.

A blend of 87% Mourvèdre and 13% Syrah vinified with 70% whole clusters and aged 21 months in 50% new French oak, the 2023 Andremily Mourvedre is a massive wine that does everything right. Ripe, spicy red and black fruits, ground pepper, camphor, and graphite all define the nose, and on the palate, it's rich and full-bodied, with a monster of a mid-palate, velvety, polished tannins, flawless balance, and a great, great finish.
The 2023 Mourvèdre is wild, feral and undeniably beguiling in its intoxicating aromatic profile of turned earth, game, truffle, wild herbs and ripe red berry fruit. It’s another wine that deftly displays the house style of big, concentrated flavors in a deceptively well-proportioned frame. It’s also totally singular, and quite unlike any other Mourvèdre I've ever tasted from California. A citrusy, polished finish leaves a long echo. This is a fabulous effort from Jim Binns — like a house calling card. - Billy Norris
